Hair  structure

Hair  cycle

Anagen - growth phase

During this phase, new hair cells divide at the hair bulb resulting in lengthening of hair shaft. It can vary from 2 – 7 years. Longer growth phase = longer hair length. Average growth is 6” per year. About 80 to 90% of hair follicles are in this phase at any given time.

Catagen - transitional phase

This is a short phase lasting approximately 2 – 3 weeks. During this the hair cells stop dividing and the hair follicle shrinks.

Telogen - resting phase

The shaft detaches from hair follicle and is shed over a period of 3 – 4 months. A new shaft starts to grow during this period. Approximately 10 – 20% of hair are in the shedding phase at any given time.

Services we offer

Hair Fall  - Telogen Effluvium

We all have our share of bad hair days. An excess hair fall of more than 50 to 100 per day is a common experience after an acute illness such as Covid infection, Malaria, Typhoid etc. Inappropriate nutrition, crash or long term diet and depletion of micro / macronutrients is one of the commonest reasons of hair fall.

Hair fall lasting for more than 6 months generally leads to reduction of volume / density. Post partum hair fall is a variant of Telogen Effluvium.

Contrary to common beliefs, shampoo and oil application cannot improve hair fall. It is important to understand the root cause along with prescription of supplements and solutions to improve hair fall and initiate hair growth.

Treatments like mesotherapy and low lever laser help by stimulating hair stem cells and enhancing hair growth.

Hair  Thinning

A very common concern among men and women. Approximately 70% of men and 50% of women experience hair thinning of various degrees by the age of 50.

Genetic predisposition and Androgen hormones cause thinning and miniaturization of hair resulting in “pattern hair thinning and loss”.

Male Pattern Hair Loss

Male pattern hair loss can start as early as late teens in those who have a strong family history.

There are ways to control the progress of the conditions in the form of oral medications (Nutrional supplements, Finestride, Dutestride), topical applications (Minoxidil, Finestride, Dutestride, Capixyl, Procapil, Redensyl), Mesotherapy, PRP. Corrective surgery in the form of Hair Transplant helps gain hair confidence.

Female Pattern Hair Loss

A complex interplay of hormones around menopause, PCOS, chronic hair fall, multiple salon treatments (rebonding) results in thinning of hair with ‘showing’ of scalp. Medical concerns like hypothyroid, diabetes can further aggravate the concern.
